Summary

Meet Bridget Jones—a 30-something Singleton who is certain she would have all the answers if she could:

a。 lose 7 pounds
b。 stop smoking
c。 develop Inner Poise

"123 lbs。 (how is it possible to put on 4 pounds in the middle of the night? Could flesh have somehow solidified becoming denser and heavier? Repulsive, horrifying notion), alcohol units 4 (excellent), cigarettes 21 (poor but will give up totally tomorrow), number of correct lottery numbers 2 (better, but nevertheless useless)。。。"

Bridget Jones's Diary is the devastatingly self-aware, laugh-out-loud daily chronicle of Bridget's permanent, doomed quest for self-improvement — a year in which she resolves to: reduce the circumference of each thigh by 1。5 inches, visit the gym three times a week not just to buy a sandwich, form a functional relationship with a responsible adult, and learn to program the VCR。

In this instance the movie is far superior to the book。 And the sequel is better than this。 This book just fails in every single way。 Such a disappointment。

This book left me cold, but I think there were some really great parts to it; therefore, I gave it 3 stars。 After a while, I got tired of Bridget's neurosis and wanted this book to end quickly。 This book left me cold, but I think there were some really great parts to it; therefore, I gave it 3 stars。 After a while, I got tired of Bridget's neurosis and wanted this book to end quickly。 。。。more

i found this book to be very reminiscent of The Princess Diaries (or maybe The Princess Diaries reminiscent of this book?)。 i’m not thinking too deeply about Bridget Jones’s Diary, but it was a nice, quite lighthearted read。 also—my jaw did drop due to some certain parallels of bridget’s life and my own and it has made me think, hmm Maybe It’s A Sign From The Universe that i decided on this as my next subway read。 it was like reading my own neurotic, obsessive diary。 anyway

A witty, quirky comedy that pulls readers in from the start as we get to know and sympathize with Bridget; however, half way through the novel, one can’t help but to become annoyed and frustrated with the main character's foolishness and whiney disposition。 The story is well-written but very long-winded。 What started off as an entertaining read eventually turned into a task to push through—leaving me exhausted and desperate to finish。 A witty, quirky comedy that pulls readers in from the start as we get to know and sympathize with Bridget; however, half way through the novel, one can’t help but to become annoyed and frustrated with the main character's foolishness and whiney disposition。 The story is well-written but very long-winded。 What started off as an entertaining read eventually turned into a task to push through—leaving me exhausted and desperate to finish。 。。。more

this was very 90s。 the diet speak was atrocious all the way through and I can't imagine how harmful it must have been for young women reading this jfc。 It was very funny at times and did make me snort laugh a couple of times, but to me, this couldn't hold a candle to the films。 The absence of a plot, and the unchecked bad mental health is far less funny and relatable in book form。 Also the romance was so uninteresting which is WEIRD because I adore the love triangle in the films and find all the this was very 90s。 the diet speak was atrocious all the way through and I can't imagine how harmful it must have been for young women reading this jfc。 It was very funny at times and did make me snort laugh a couple of times, but to me, this couldn't hold a candle to the films。 The absence of a plot, and the unchecked bad mental health is far less funny and relatable in book form。 Also the romance was so uninteresting which is WEIRD because I adore the love triangle in the films and find all the interactions dead charming。 In this they were just dead。 I think without the visuals of Hugh Grant, Daniel Cleaver is just a creep tbh, and Mark Darcy has just。。。 no character traits。。。I think my biggest take away from this book is that I am extremely grateful I did not read it when I was younger。 I loved the films as a teenager (n probs still would now), but good god this book has some toxic messaging about self image, and it's all passed off as quirky humour。 Our protag can't stand herself and doesn't grow or change at all :( 。。。more

This book is so stupid。

This book was one of the few non-fantasy books I really like - mostly because I could also relate to Bridget's obsessions, problems and characteristics。 It is also a rare thing that I like both the book and the movie。Bridget is self taunting and obsessing over the expectations and ideals of others and the body image media feeds us。 The bottom line in this book is not to listen to those devious outer expectations。 As it happens also the people who are the dearest to you do accept you as Marc Darc This book was one of the few non-fantasy books I really like - mostly because I could also relate to Bridget's obsessions, problems and characteristics。 It is also a rare thing that I like both the book and the movie。Bridget is self taunting and obsessing over the expectations and ideals of others and the body image media feeds us。 The bottom line in this book is not to listen to those devious outer expectations。 As it happens also the people who are the dearest to you do accept you as Marc Darcy put it, "just as you are。" 。。。more

Didn't finish。 Too silly for me。。。。I found Bridget Jones to be an incredibly annoying character。 Maybe I should watch the movie and see if that makes reading the book easier。 Didn't finish。 Too silly for me。。。。I found Bridget Jones to be an incredibly annoying character。 Maybe I should watch the movie and see if that makes reading the book easier。 。。。more

Not worth your time even if you enjoyed the movies。 Ideas are really out-of -date and hasn’t aged well。 I’m guessing that the author wrote this intending it to be a modern satire, however found it was most times boarder line offensive。 Tbh, has been a while since I’ve seen or heard the word oriental as an adjective used casually。 Bridget’s weight fluctuation and her mood swings are repetitive。 Huge letdown compared to the movie, won’t be continuing on with the series。

I loved this book。 I knew what to expect since I’ve seen the films and the two were very similar。 I love Bridget, I love her trying to navigate through being an actual adult and the pains of friends and relationships and just being a silly person in general。 I think she’s a great main character with many faults (her main being her taste in men)。 The male love interests are not particularly great choices but everyone loves Mark don’t they, I know some women out there like the asshole but Daniel i I loved this book。 I knew what to expect since I’ve seen the films and the two were very similar。 I love Bridget, I love her trying to navigate through being an actual adult and the pains of friends and relationships and just being a silly person in general。 I think she’s a great main character with many faults (her main being her taste in men)。 The male love interests are not particularly great choices but everyone loves Mark don’t they, I know some women out there like the asshole but Daniel is just not for me。I know a lot of people are upset about Bridget’s obsessive weighing and constant hate on herself however I think it’s very telling of how women were judged in the 90s。 If you weren’t a size 0 you were fat and although Bridget Jones is only 9st ,which is by no means fat, it shows how society treated sizes at the time。 It doesn’t age well clearly as we no longer consider 9st as large but it does show insecurities very well as it’s clear Bridget is very insecure as is everyone。Aside from that I love Bridget and I will be finishing the series。 。。。more

Was a pretty entertaining and light read。 Found it a bit boring at times but in general it was quite nice。

Bridget Jones’ Diary is often credited as the novel that started the chick-lit revolution, where novels about women’s lives and experiences finally started to be taken seriously by publishers。 And the main reason it’s so popular is that every woman can relate to Bridget in some way。 From worrying about our awkwardness in social situations, to holding ourselves accountable for the unattainable beauty standards, to falling for the completely wrong man - every woman can relate to Bridget。 You feel Bridget Jones’ Diary is often credited as the novel that started the chick-lit revolution, where novels about women’s lives and experiences finally started to be taken seriously by publishers。 And the main reason it’s so popular is that every woman can relate to Bridget in some way。 From worrying about our awkwardness in social situations, to holding ourselves accountable for the unattainable beauty standards, to falling for the completely wrong man - every woman can relate to Bridget。 You feel yourself in her, laughing at the hilarity of life, and cringing when she makes mistakes。 I love discussing this book through the lens of feminism - is Bridget Jones an example of modern day feminism or setting us back? And I feel like a good argument can be made for both sides。 But I think that’s what makes this book so relatable, as we all aim to be the perfect woman, kind yet strong, a good partner and friend, yet capable and individualistic。 And that’s life, that we hold ourselves to this perfect image but can never quite meet it, and I love that this book tells you that it is okay to not be perfect, to embrace and love all the parts of yourself, but to also accept that some days you do hate those parts, and that’s okay too。 Fielding’s writing is witty, insightful and hilarious, with moments that truly made me laugh or gasp out loud。 I loved comparing the book to the film, and noting the changes that didn’t make it into the film。 But it truly captures the essence of what made me fall in love with both the film and the book, that this made me feel like it’s okay to be me。 。。。more

I love the sense of humor this book gives to you。 Bridget is my comfort character。 It's definitely not written at a high level, but just to relax and have fun with it。 I love the sense of humor this book gives to you。 Bridget is my comfort character。 It's definitely not written at a high level, but just to relax and have fun with it。 。。。more

Książka z bardzo dobrym humorem, świetną bohaterką, napisana lekkim piórem。 Słyszałam, że jest też film, także z pewnością obejrzę!

Such a fun read and a nice recreation of Pride and Prejudice。 While some of it is quite outdated, the jokes are still funny and Bridget is still relatable。

3。5 Stars I wanted to love it like I do the movie but I found her to be more painful and annoying in the book。

One of the very few books I have read that came out better as a film than a book。 I would not recommend the book to anyone unless they are rather bland, repetitive and self-obsessed or appreciate characters similar。

Georgia

2。5Love the movie so decided to give this a go as it was only a short read。 Found it interesting to see where the two differed。 This was a funny read but ultimately found Bridget a bit annoying at some parts of the diary, which I guess is just her character。 However, smiled more than I frowned。

so basically what im telling you is I love pride and prejudice and anything that associates with it if its british
